Opening session, Sunday 9 July 2000, 15.00 - 17.00
To the participants of the ICEVI Conference
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Regretting not to be able to participate in the sessions of the ICEVI Conference, it is with great pleasure that I wish to greet all its participants.
I am very pleased that Cracow - historical capital of our country - was chosen to be the venue of the Conference "Visions and Strategies for the New Century".
I am convinced that the presence of the outstanding European experts engaged in the issues regarding people with visual impairment as well as the presentation of the newest achievements in the rehabilitation and education will contribute not only to solving many of the problems faced by people with visual impairment but will also give them support in the execution of their projects for the future.
I would like to express my hope that the Conference will be a significant event for Poland with regard to developments in the area of education of visually impaired people and that it will contribute to a unified Europe.
I wish you fruitful debates and encourage you to get acquainted with the atmosphere of old Cracow and to discover its beauty.
