Education for ADL - instructors in Czech Republic

The Charles University in Prague, Rehabilitation Institute for the Visually Impaired
- start in first term of the next academical year
- courses will be primarily for applicants working in special schools or institutes for visually impairment, secondarily for the university students
Prerequisites:
- active knowledge of Braille (reading - by eyes + writing)
- basic ophthalmology
- good physical and psychical estate
- study in 300 hours of direct work - 2 terms (1 academical year)
- organization of the courses: first week - intensive block studying (introduction, simulation goggles, ...etc.), afterwards fortnight's consultations
- max 10 participants in course: 1/2 of the participants is blindfolded, another 1/2 is supervising - regular roles exchanging during the whole course
- acquiring skills under blindfolds as well as teaching methods - in accordance with regular exchanging roles during the consultations
- participants practise general activities (labelling; money assorting; clothing care /sewing buttons, washing, ironing, folding�.etc/; personal hygiene; house repairs and care; phoning; handwriting - signature; cooking - cutting, pouring liquids, boiling, stewing, frying, roasting; setting table, eating)
- participants are led to the ability to create various ways of teaching multiply handicapped people (especially mentally handicapped people with visual impairment, deaf-blind people) as well as to recognize when is necessary to co-operate with other experts (fe.: teaching people with visual and physical handicap)
- participants receive certificate that he/she has completed the course for the ADL -instructors unsigned by dean of the faculty
- costs: Because of the recognition of the Rehabilitation Institute for the Visually Impaired by the state, participants do not pay for the course. They pay for meals and accommodation (usually paid by employer of the participant) and material used during the course.
